Bald Cypress

These are majestic trees that grow along creeks and rivers; they are slow-growing, can reach heights or 75 feet or taller, and are very long-lived. A deciduous conifer, the tree has a noticeable structure forming above the roots that are known as “cypress knees.” These might serve to aerate the tree’s roots—or possibly to provide support in flood-prone areas.
