About the Artist:
Elizabeth Carrington is best known for her colorful, pop art paintings; public art; and textiles, all of which mix graffiti-style lettering, doodles, and collage with graphic screen-printed imagery. Her work comments on institutionalized dogmas and beliefs and recognizes the importance of thoughts and actions that move the needle of society’s moral compass. Regardless of the medium, her work is fun and whimsical—and sometimes subversive—and is informed by her lifelong love of travel, music, the outdoors, and action sports.
She has done creative work for the McNay Museum, Art Pace, Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, Green Space Alliance, the RK Group, Methodist Hospital, Spurs Sports and Entertainment, Public Art Salt Lake City, Public Art San Antonio, The San Antonio River Authority, Rackspace, and the San Antonio Zoo.

I was inspired by how San Pedro Culture Park is intended to be a vital infrastructure for the growing downtown and the emphasis on humans, flora and fauna ‘sharing the trail’.
My designs are intended to be fresh and current. They include numerous elements that represent the outdoor spaces, energy, and nature that define San Pedro Creek and all of San Antonio. The design elements pay respect to the city’s unique and vibrant mix of Mexican, American, and indigenous cultures, and the animal designs are either inspired by or are literal representation of flora and fauna native to the area. Taken together, the representation of people and animals alludes to the power that comes from blending cultures over time and the collective benefits that are realized when critical natural resources are well cared for and shared equitably.
The designs are meant to encourage viewers to live their best, healthiest lives and to inspire excitement and passion for the outdoors, as exercise and nature are essential to quality of life, physical, and mental health.
This is the spirit and history of San Pedro Culture Park through my lens.
