Public Input Sessions: Archaeological Site at San Pedro Creek

In early 2020, construction activities in Phase 1.2 of San Pedro Creek Culture Park uncovered a series of foundations near the southwest corner of West Houston and Camaron Street. Through archival research, four components were identified to be associated with the foundations: Klemcke/Menger Soapworks, African Methodist Episcopal Church, Alamo Icehouse, and Alamo Icehouse & Brewery.

A group of community leaders and history experts weighed in on the significance and research of the archaeological site. This led to the evaluation of design options that incorporate the foundations to varying degrees.

The community is invited to learn more about San Pedro Creek Culture Park, learn about the foundations discovered, learn about the history of occupation associated with the foundations, and help guide the design of the area.

In partnership with the San Antonio River Authority, a series of public information sessions are scheduled to obtain community preference and feedback on the revised design options.
